EFSA rejects bisphenol A concerns, reconfirms TDI Friday 22nd of October 2010

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) said there is no new evidence to suggest the tolerable daily intake (TDI) for bisphenol A (BPA) needs to be changed as it reconfirmed that current levels of exposure pose no threat to human health.

EFSA Updates Advice on Bisphenol A Monday 18th of October 2010

Following a detailed and comprehensive review of recent scientific literature and studies on the toxicity of bisphenol A at low doses, scientists on the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA) CEF[1] Panel conclude they could not identify any new evidence which would lead them to revise the current Tolerable Daily Intake[2] for BPA of 0.05 mg/kg body weight[3] set by EFSA in its 2006 opinion and re-confirmed in its 2008 opinion[4].

Lactic acid bacteria may cut acrylamide formation Monday 11th of October 2010

A Norwegian company has developed a new method that claims to be 90 per cent effective in reducing acrylamide formation during food production. The method, which uses specially developed food grade lactic acid bacteria, was developed by Norwegian research company Zeracryl AS, and may reduce the formation of acrylamide during industrial production of potatoes and coffee.
